This painting was commissioned because the buyer wanted to give someone special a single blue rose. Apparently they are grown but it's not likely that you'll find one in the flower shop down the street unless it's been dyed.
In 2004 the blue rose was created through genetic engineering.by a company in Japan.
I thought the painting was a wonderful replacement for the real thing - it will last much longer!
