Below is a sample of custom painted furniture. If you are interested in hiring me to create something special for you please email me. If you are local and have a piece you want painted we can make arrangements for delivery or pick-up. If you are not local to Massachusetts we can still make arrangements through an email. Think about what kind of piece you want painted and a theme. An old and damaged piece of furniture is perfect for a project like this! I'll work through the process with you.
The Old School Desk

I started painting furniture during the summer of 2009. I was asked to paint an old school desk for a local school fundraiser along with other painters in the community.
I always loved the Sticks brand painted furniture and being the typical artist that I am I thought I could paint using a method similar to theirs. I did some research and a new passion was born.
The chair and desktop above were sanded and then I used a wood burner for the initial drawing. The finished product is below. I was very happy to hear that my desk set brought in many bids.
All the furniture is painted with waterbased acrylic paint and topcoated with 5 layers of Minwax Polycrylic Protective Finish. It will resist damage from abrasion, scuffing, chipping, water, alcohol and other common household chemicals.
Coffee Mill
If you have an old family heirloom made of wood and think it's ready for the trash think again - my grandmother's coffee mill was broken and worn. Unfortunately I neglected to take a before photo. I searched on the web for anything similar. The closest facsimile of the coffee mill before I restored it is the photo to the right. The bottom of my mill was detached, the drawer fell apart when I removed it. The finish was totally gone.
This is how it looks now! I didn't use any chemical strippers or toxic paints and varnishes to restore it. The wood was 'antiqued" by using washes of acrylic paint and then just as the furniture above it was coated with many layers of protective finish. It now has a place in my kitchen not too far from the sink where there is a lot of traffic. The finish looks the same as it did when I restored it a few years ago. If my grandmother was still around I think she'd want this coffee grinder returned ;-)

Ria, I love your version of "Sticks". I too love their happy furniture, but can't pay their prices, and would have to have a happy little cottage to go with it.
